The complex nature of IT means that
there is no easy to interpret standard framework that can be used
to categorise the elements that are involved. As a specialist
service provider, Croft needed some way of enabling their services
and solution offerings to be viewed by clients and also to act
as a framework for performing systems and support audit and reviews.
In conjunction with colleagues and
partners, I was able to develop what Croft branded, the ‘hub’.
The hub is a highly visual basis for categorising the principal
elements of a business related information and communications
technology environment. The hub is therefore a framework that
can be the basis of any ICT strategy. The hub was used as the
basis to develop a unique process for reviewing a business’s
IT capability. This is known as the Business Technology Assessment
(BTA) of which I was instrumental in its creation.
The BTA is a structured review of how technology
systems can add value to a business, either by optimising existing
investments, or by looking at new ways of using IT. This process
provides the means for Croft’s customers to get an impartial
assessment of how they use IT now, and the steps they need to
take to get the best out of IT in the future.
