Software as a service is now a growing method of delivering software to users over a private network or the internet.
Microsoft provides their software through this method to some of their largest, worldwide customers. A requirement of this methodology is that
accurate reporting needs to be submitted to ensure that billings match usage. There is however no tool available to undertake this task. As a
result, Microsoft’s partners cannot be sure if they are reporting accurately and therefore being billed correctly for the software that they use.
activAeon is a Sunderland based company that has developed an automated license reporting tool which solves this problem.
This enables Microsoft and their customers to gain clarity on the real status of software usage enabling accurate payment and billings to be
determined, thus ensuring best value decisions are made for software usage.
In order to assist with the availability of this solution to this huge market, I was involved in the development of a process which,
with close involvement of Microsoft and activAeon Staff, which has resulted in the provision of their technology through a method known as the activAeon
Licensing Efficiency Program (LEP).
This process provides clarity on the issues, through the gathering of pertinent information and customer perceptions, through
installation, training and usage. The outcome of this practice is the provision of a summary report highlighting the impact that the implementation has
provided to the business, thus ensuring software licensing efficiency is achieved. The LEP is currently being introduced to some of the World’s largest
corporations across Europe and the USA.
